Here are a few of the answers to your questions that will help you enjoy your experience at

Douglas Brooke Salon and Spa.

Q:

My hair color tends to fade rather quickly. What can I do to keep this from happening?

A:

One of the first things to do is make sure that when you are rinsing your hair you use as cool of water as you can tolerate, as this will close the cuticle of the hair down and help to keep the color. Another tool is to make sure and use a Shampoo and Conditioner, such as Caviar from Alterna, which has full light spectrum protection as this will protect your hair from sun damage as well as fadage that you will receive from being indoors in fluorescent lighting.

Q:

My nails are very brittle and my cuticles are always dry. How can I protect my hands and get them looking and feeling natural and soft again?

A:

With the hands, one of the best things to use is the Intense Total Hydrating Therapy from Qtica. This will help to nourish and hydrate the hands. We also have a Cuticle Repair Formula that specifically targets the cuticles to heal and hydrate, to ensure the end of damaged cuticles. For your nails, we offer Trillionails from Essie which will strengthen and repair the natural nail.

Q:

My hair is the most unruly curl I have ever seen. No matter what products I use on it, I can never seem to get the curl under control and not frizzy. Is there something that I can use that will really control my curl or should I just straighten it?

A:

First of all you want to make sure that you are using a Shampoo and Conditioner that are designed for curly hair so you will get the added proteins which will strengthen the hair to give you better curl retention. A good choice is the Life Curl Line from Alterna. Also be sure to use a serum when finishing the hair to seal the cuticle and help prevent the “frizzy’s”. If straightening the hair is your choice, Then you can either use a smoothing serum and a good flat iron from FHI Irons, or you can go to more of a permanent solution by allowing one of our stylists to use a Japanese Straightener on you hair to achieve the smoothest tresses you will ever see.

Q:

I have never had a massage before. I would love to start getting massages but I am unsure of what to schedule. How do I know what to expect and also what massage is right for me?

A:

All you have to do is speak with one of our guest service representatives and let them do the rest. They will help to ease any concern by finding out what your needs are and then making suggestions on what massage would be best. They can also help by describing what to expect once you’re in the room with the therapist, as well as, finding a time for a reservation that best fits your schedule.

Q:

I am starting to see fine lines and wrinkles on my face. I have never had a facial but I want to keep my skin looking as young as possible. What can I do to help this situation?

Q:

We would recommend you to schedule a consultation with one of our estheticians, and allow them to advice you on what the best course of action would be. There are several types of treatments that can be done depending on the individual needs. A Micro-Derm treatment is one option where the esthetician uses an instrument with micro sized diamond crystals to gently remove a very fine layer of skin. This will allow the dermal layer to receive more oxygen which will aide in the rejuvenation of the skin. This treatment is generally done in a series of six to achieve the maximum results.

Q:

I have been trying to get my husband to have a manicure and pedicure. His hands and feet always feel so rough. He doesn’t want to come in and have the same services that I have done because he thinks they’re going to polish his nails. How can I get him to try these services without being so closed minded?

A:

We would recommend our Men’s Restorative Manicure and our Men’s Rejuvenating Pedicure. Both of these services are geared just for men. We use very specific products that are designed to treat the demanding needs that most men put their hands and feet through on a daily basis. Oh, and by the way, there is no nail polishing done (unless they ask for it)!
